ANNA PÉREZ MARTÍ
Director and Creator of Audiovisual Formats
Story Producer and Script Writer
It is all about stories. They broaden our standpoint, shake us to our core and eventually trigger major changes. We all need and desire to be told stories; we all have memories, beliefs and knowledge worth sharing. I am passionate about discovering these tales and figuring out the best way to convey them to the world.
GET TO KNOW ME
A Close Up on Who I am
I was born in a bustling, blooming yet mostly out-of-date, but definitely captivating Barcelona a couple of months after it held the Olympic Games, in 1992. Growing up I was a cheerful, dreamy, observant girl, who spent half of her free time devouring books and writing her own tales; I employed the other half in dancing with my friends and singing on my own (singing does not happen to be my strong point).
My passion for literature prompted me to sign up for a degree in Journalism at 17, but while studying at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) I ended up fascinated by the huge communicative power of images and television.
For my last semester I moved to Tel Aviv, in Israel, where I studied Communication and Political Sciences at IDC Herzliya College. I also used this opportunity to create a series of feature stories on Israel's society and culture that aired on TV3, the Catalan public broadcaster.
Back in Barcelona, I worked in several audiovisual production companies as a story producer, putting together documentary series and TV shows for Spanish broadcasters. My duties included researching content, arranging and carrying out interviews, coordinating shootings and editing footage, as well as live interviewing in a television studio.
I also seized any opportunity that I was given to travel: Cuba, Thailand, Mexico, Morocco, New York, Greece, Cambodia and Turkey are some of the destinations I have recently visited.
In May 2019 I moved to Madrid, looking for exciting new challenges and wider professional horizons. Firstly I worked as a freelance reporter for BBC Worklife, sending video features that I pitched, produced, filmed and edited.
Right after that I joined Zanskar Productions as a scriptwriter of Superhumanos, a docseries which gave me the priceless chance to get to know first-hand the Bajau village of Sampela, in Indonesia, as well as the Sámi population in Kautokeino, Norway.
A job offer brought me back to Barcelona. I would debut as a director in BESTIAL!, a gastronomic site addressed to young people. Its flagship product was a weekly recipe presented by Gipsy Chef, but it also included feature stories on ingredients, worldwide cuisines and history, as well as op-eds from renowned food writers. After one year in BESTIAL!, I was offered to direct a documentary series on creativity for TV3, Ments Inquietes, which involved interviewing and filming some of the most inspiring and renowned Catalan personalities. Later on I engaged in several other projects —including Alexia, Labor Omnia Vincit, a docseries for Amazon Prime Video on footballer Alexia Putellas, the first woman to win the Ballon d'Or award twice— before I embarked on a new and exciting challenge at Abacus Idea. At Abacus, I combine the creation and developement of audiovisual formats for any kind of clients (from tv channels and streaming platforms to public institutions and private companies) with the direction of tv programs: since I joined the company, I have directed Cuina salvatge amb Maria Nicolau (2023), FANG! (S1, 2024) and Cita bestial (S2, 2025).
My ultimate goal is joining international projects where I have the chance to learn from the best cintematographers while traveling around the world and getting to know as many cultures, people and lifestyles as possible.
